All of the M102 engines are of single cam, 8 valve design. The Camshaft push a set of pushrods on either side of the cylinder head in order to let in and let out gases. This conventional type of engine has been used since the late 70's of the w123. For the W201, the oil pump and engine pountings where changed in addition to the introduction of the fuel injected version, which was equipped with a bosch k-jetronic fuel injection system.
